When Apple revealed its PC-friendly MiniMac, I thought here was something worth getting. The price was reasonable, and using the KVM switch I already have, I could use the Mac OS computer with the LCD screen, mouse, and keyboard on the kids' computer. (A KVM switch allows two computer boxes to share the keyboard, video, and mouse.)
But no, I reasoned. Apple initally ships new Macs with underwhelming specs, and then later comes out with models with proper specs at the same price. Wait a few months and get a free hardware upgrade, as it were.
This week, Apple confirmed my prediction by:
- doubling the memory to 512KB
- including the wireless networking card
- making the DVD a burner
But, I still won't buy the MiniMac, because of Apple's other news: that it is switching over to Intel CPUs.
